One-Day Centering Prayer Workshop-October 20, 2017
One-Day Centering Prayer Workshop in Greensboro
Friday, October 20, 2017
Do you sometimes fail to nurture your personal relationship with God in favor of ministry to others? Is your prayer life often crowded out by your “to do” list?
If so, you may be interested in a one-day workshop in Greensboro on Friday, October 20, 2017 on Centering Prayer led by Rev. Bob Shield, Senior Pastor at Trinity United Methodist Church in Beaumont, Texas. The workshop will be held at Christ United Methodist Church (CUMC) in Greensboro from 10 A.M.-3 P.M. Rev. Shield received his Doctor of Divinity at Princeton and his dissertation focused on Centering Prayer and Family System Theory. The idea of Centering Prayer is simple: “Be still and know that I am God”. “Resting in God” is another way some describe Centering Prayer.
The cost of the workshop is $55.00 but the WNCC Leadership Development Team and the WNCC is offering full scholarship for a limited number of clergy and ministry professionals.
To request a brochure on the Centering Prayer workshop (or for more information, including scholarship for clergy and ministry professionals), call Nexus Journey, the organization sponsoring the workshop, at 336-323-8957.
This grant from the Leadership Development is very much appreciated…C. Robin Britt

SCHOOL OF THE SPIRIT- May 7-8, 2018, July 30-31, 2018, October 29-30, 2018, January 28-29, 2019, April 1-2, 2019
Can we really put on the “mind of Christ?” Can we really have “an easy yoke?” Probably not if we are caught up in our own ego striving, albeit to simply do good things. Probably not if we think we can do it by ourselves. But there is a way. School of the Spirit is committed to providing the experience, practices and trusting support for a deep journey into ourselves where we most connect with the power, mystery and love of God, and from which all love-inspired works of ministry flow. If you are willing to risk giving up control of your own life, to learn ancient practices which allow you to gently put your life in God’s hands, then there is no better place to start that journey than School of the Spirit.
SCHOOL OF THE SPIRIT, a distinct one-year school of contemplative practices for clergy/leaders in community, continues to prove transformative for participants. Class 7 just finished with great favor; Class 8 filled quickly with an impressive waiting list; Class 9 begins May 2018 and includes five 2-day quarterly retreats:

2018 FIVE DAY ACADEMY FOR SPIRITUAL FORMATION
The WNC Five Day Academy Team and The Upper Room are planning to host a Five Day Academy for Spiritual Formation in the Fall of 2018 at Caraway Conference Center in Asheboro. We are working on the date and the faculty participants and will announce the specific information as it is confirmed. Limited scholarship grants will be available thanks to the WNCC and the Leadership Development Team.
One of most significant ministry programs of The Upper Room is the Academy for Spiritual Formation. There is a two year component that includes a five day intensive experience of two segments of the spiritual life, once per quarter for two years, with both laity and clergy. The two faculty per session are chosen from the most prominent teachers and mentors in faith formation. The experience also includes a daily rhythm of life together, including the Lord’s Supper, periods of silence and reflection, a continuing covenant group, and all the best of life together. An outgrowth of this is the Five Day Academy, partnering with local sponsors, such as the WNC Five Day Academy Team. Each local team member is a graduate of the full Academy for Spiritual Formation and is experienced in their areas of service. Each time we have offered the Five Day Academy, the evaluations have shown that many find this to be a life-enriching, if not also a life-changing encounter with God. Our team is moving toward a Five Day Academy in the Fall of 2018 at Caraway Conference Center in Asheboro, NC. Limited scholarship grants will be available. Full details will be released as soon as confirmed.
Thank you for the great news and impending support of the 2018 Five Day Academy for Spiritual Formation. Randy and Kathie Sherrill
